Have Diverticulitis, Low Fiber Initiality, No Appetite. What Can Be Done? Diet To Be Followed?
I need to know what diet I need to follow after my release from the hospital for diverticulitis. I was told bland & low fiber initially. I'm not sure what foods that means. I know what high fiber foods I need later, but since I have no appetite right now, nothing sounds good now. I'd appreciate any help you could give me
Hi, Welcome to HCM, You have Diverticulosis and recently suffered a acute diverticulitis. This is good that you have recovered from acute episode with treatment. We need to give rest to colon to give time to heal that is why low residue diet is advised as you rightly said later on high fibre diet will be required. A low residue diet is a diet reduce the frequency and volume of stools while prolonging intestinal transit time. It is similar to a low-fiber diet, but typically includes restrictions on foods that increase bowel activity milk, milk products. A low residue diet typically contains less than 7–10 grams of fiber per day. Clear liquids, especially those that replace the salts lost, typical diet may include banana, rice, Applesauce and Toast. Please consult your dietitian or Physician. Hope this helps Take care. Good luck. Dr.Akhilesh Dubey M.D.
