Dear friend.

Thanks for sharing your concern.

your history suggests that you have developed peripheral neuropathy.

please mention if you have any other symptoms too, like tingling in other parts of body especially extremities.

Also please mention in detail specific areas, where you feel these symptoms that is around your cheek or tongue.

complete history would help me to suggest better treatment modalities.

Thanks.

Take care.

Hello & welcome,

Nerve injury may occur in case of third molar removal especially in lower third molar removal though not very common.

Even if nerve injury occurs, it presents with the parasthesia which lasts or recovers almost in six months & rarely extends beyond that period.

You are on steroids, so take care of oral hygiene especially to avoid secondary infections.

You may need to gargle with the local anesthetic mouthwash to reduce the pain or burning sensation.

Role of Bcomplex or multivitamin capsule is also considered in such case. You should also visit your dentist & undergo thorough clinical examination.

Take care.

Thank you fro the query. I am sorry to say that after 20 years of injury to your nerve it is almost impossible that you will have your nerve totally repaired. It's good that your doctor have tried with surgery and radiation. You have to continue with your LYRICA and TOPOMAX. Please keep in touch with your doctor regularly, as these drugs has some serious side effects. You can consult your physiotherapist for any help. You can also think and consult about some alternative management like Biofeedback, Acupuncture, Trans-cutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(TENS) etc. These alternative managements have reports of some excellent results. Hope for the best.
