Have Pnemonia. Difficulty Remembering Simple Things, Deep Sleep For A Week In ICU. Detected Sensitivity To Medicines. All Tests Normal. Help

My husband is currently in Icu he has pneumonia and he went to sleep Wednesday afternoon and just woke up today. He is very incoherent and can t remember simple things like where is from. The doctors said the sleeping was because of his pain med he was on and the pneumonia made him sensitive to his meds. They have ran test on him and everything is clear. Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

Please do not worry. Your husband is in delirium which is common after severe infections, surgeries, electrolyte imbalance etc and sometimes may also be due to some medicines. He will improve gradually when the infection improves and his physical condition gets better. In the meantime, his doctors need to assess if there are factors other than pneumonia that may be contributing to his delirium. For example, his pain medicines may also be implicated. He will also need to be regularly monitored by blood tests for electrolyte levels to ensure that they remain within normal limits.
