Have Myocardial Infarction. Get Heart Palpitation While Smoking Marijuana. Any Danger In It?

a friend had a MI nine years ago. He s been smoking/vaperizing marijuana for three or four of the last years. He also gets a heart palpultations occasionally but only when he is smoking it. He tells me it works for him, sleep. relax, fun, etc and would be very hard to stop. 1st question: is it critical he stop? 2nd question: I ve read mixed reports on marijuana use as causing a 3-5 fold increase in another MI while other studies suggest it actually helps cardiovascular disease . What is the truth? Thanks

Hi there ~

Having had or having a myocardial infarction is not something that you should disregard, especially when you also have heart palpitations. Though medical marijuana has been approved for chronic intractable pain in certain states of the united states of america, it is not yet in use or FDA approved for anxiety or palpitations. You should also get yourself tested for the palpitations and get treatment for the same. It is critical that your friend stop marijuana use now, and that marijuana use probably increases the risk of any cardiovascular disease though there is not much in terms of scientific research that has been conducted on it due to industry pressures.
