Has Swollen Red Eyes With Discharge, Chest Congestion And Runny Nose. Diagnosed With Mycoplasma. What Could This Be?
My 11 month old daughter has very red Swollen eyes with discharge cough chest congestion and runny nose! Her cousin who is with her every day was just diagnosed with mycoplasma! Could this be it? We are giving her Zithromax 100mg/5ml and generics gentek for the eyes! I'm so worried what this could be! The doctor we took her too didn't test her, just assumed that's what it was!

Mycoplasma is one of the most common infections we see in children and is not serious. Zithromax is the treatment of choice and thus you need not worry as it will take care of the infection, which actually will go away on its own untreated but can take several weeks. Just give the medications as prescribed and she should be fine.
The blood test for mycoplasma takes a week or more to return and we rarely test for it as treatment is so easy.
