Had Total Thyroidectomy Done. Have Heavy Menstruation Flow. Lost Weight. Recommendations?

Hi, I'm a 52 year old that had a total thyroidectomy on July 4, 2013. I've started my menstruation Aug 16 and we are now Aug 30th, and the flow is still heavy. Are my meds off. I do have an appointment On sept 5th with my family doctors. Meantime, I have went from 196 pounds to 186 pounds. I'm exercising and eating healthy. What questions should I be asking my doctor during my visit.

Hi,
In the current scenario, you should clarify two things. Firstly, as you had the thyroid removed, you would need supplementation. Secondly, considering your age, you need to be investigated for the abnormal menstrual pattern. As you may not be suitable for hormone therapy at this age for menstrual disturbances, your doctors may think of other available options to control the abnormal bleeding. As you did not say if you have regular cycles, it is difficult to comment on that. Any disturbance in the general condition, be it an infection or trauma, will usually affect the menstrual pattern. Hope this helps.
