Had Terrible Cough. Started Out Dry. Fever Low Grade. Ear Infection?

Hello, My 8 month old son has a terrible cough since 12 days. Started out with dry coug then became wet cough and now its both dry and wet. Have taken him to the doctor 3 times. The first two times the doctor did not give any medication as the chest x-ray was fine and there was no sign of an ear infection . The third time he was diagnosed with an ear infection and the doctor prescribed amoxicillin . He has had fever as well. The fever is now low grade but the cough seems to not improve. Have already tried the steam, humidifier and vicks . Any suggesstions to improve his cough are greatly appreciated.
