Had C Section Delivery. Started Smelly, Dark Periods. Missing Periods, Swollen And Painful Abdomen And Leg. Concerned

My daughter gave birth to a healthy baby girl 7 months ago. We could see the babys head during delivery but cord was wrapped around her and she was unable to be delivered. They did a c-section and the baby wasnt breathing so doctor resusitated and she was fine. But they had hard time stopping my daughters hemmoraging. Her doctor called a 2nd doctor in to patch her up. She had a period few weeks after the birth that smelled sour and looked black. Since then its been nearly 7 months no menstrual cycle. She is swollen in the abdomen and legs and in pain.

Hello and welcome,

I understand your query and concern.

It was a difficult cesarean section. The recovery is typically delayed in such cases please do not worry.

The absent periods may be due to breast feeding, stress, any other medical or hormonal problem.
If she is having a swelling on feet then the following conditions must be ruled out.
1. Anemia and hypoproteinemia where due to low hemoglobin and low proteins there is swelling. A hemogram and serum proteins or liver function test will rule this out.
2. Kidney problems can lead to swelling and a kidney function test will be needed.
3. hormonal imbalances like cushings disease, thyroid dysfunction and sheehans syndrome that occurs due to excess blood loss during delivery are other potential reasons.

The commonest cause is breast feeding. However you must get her examined by a doctor as well as investigated for the swelling and menstrual issues.

Meanwhile just see that she has a healthy diet rich in proteins [ meat and milk], 2 fruits every day and fresh vegetables with sprouts to help build up her hemoglobin as well as replenish proteins.
Hope this satisfies your query.
