Growth In Vagina, Feels Like Skin Tag. Having Sexual Intercourse. What Could It Be?

I recently felt a growth inside on my vagina wall. My boyfriend and I frequently have sexual intercourse. I also notice that it hurts a bit more. Its similar to the feeling of a skin tag, but feels like it hasn t gotten a little bigger in a week. The growth itself does not hurt and I barely notice its there. What could it be?

Hi Kenda,

A growth within the vaginal wall is most probably a vaginal cyst. There are different types.
1) Inclusion cysts - very common
2) bartholin cyst - gets infected sometimes, responsible for vaginal lubrication
3) gartner duct cysts
4) Mullerian cyst - Both of the these are associated with child birth.

Sometimes redundant vaginal tissues can cause tag like sensation. Do not worry.

Vaginal cysts are not to be treated. Your doctor should advise you to just monitor and come back to him / her when there is change in shape, causes pain.

General & Family Physician Dr. Shanthi E's  Response
Hi,

To feel a growth on the vaginal wall is something concerning.

It needs to be evaluated further by a Gynecologist. A per vaginal examination is required. It can be a benign wart or it can be vulval or vaginal malignancy. This needs to be ruled out.

A biopsy from the growth and histopathological examination will help in confirming the cause for it.

Hope this helps.
