Got Hurt In Ear, Bleeding. What Should I Do? How Would I Know If I Punctured My Ear Drum ?

I was sitting down at a table scratching around the outside of the hole of my ear, & my arm was on the table & my arm slipped & my pinky finger jammed in my ear. I had a really bad pain & my ear started to bleed from the inside. I dont hear a ringing & I can still hear everything fine. That was around 10pm today, I put a tissue in my ear to help clot whatever cut might have been inside my ear. Then it stopped around an hour later so I wen to sleep. I made sure that I didnt sleep on that side of my head. I happened to wake up & now it is 4.40am & noticed my ear is bleeding again. What should I do ? & How would I know If I punctured my ear drum ?

Dear friend, welcome to Healthcaremagic!
I am Dr. Prasad Akole (Critical Care Expert- http://bit.ly/Dr-Prasad-Akole) and am glad to address to your query here.

It is not possible to puncture the eardrum with a finger.
It must have been a trivial cut by your nail with the sudden jerk.
It will stop on pressing on the bleeding point firmly with a clean tissue/ sterile gauze.
If should stop with pressure, unless you are on blood thinners like aspirin, warfarin or have rare bleeding disorder.

If it does not stop with these measures, please see a doctor to know what the problem is.

I hope to have answered your query satisfactorily. I would be glad to answer any further queries. Take care and please keep me informed of your progress at http://bit.ly/Dr-Prasad-Akole

Allergist and Immunologist Dr. Suman Kumar's  Response
THERE ARE NO CHANCES OF PERFORATION OF DRUM AS IF DRUM IS PUNCTURED THERE IS EAR DISCHRGE
THERE IS TRAUMA OUTSIDE IN EAC AND BLOOD OOZES OUT ON AND OFF FROM THE DAMAGED SKIN
YOU CAN BE ASSURE AS THE PERFORATION CAN CAUSE DISCHARGE RINGING AND DECREASED HERSING
TAKE OFLOX 200 MG BD FOR 5 DAYS
APPLY CLINDAMYCIN GEL IN EXTERNAL AUDITORY CANAL WITH LITTLE FINGER
TAKE DICLOFENIC SOS AS PAIN KILLER
USE COTTON TO AVOID GOING WATER IN EAR DURING BATH
DONOT PUT DROPS AS IT CAN DAMAGE DRUM IF NOT DAMAGED
