Fell On Ice Tip Which Dug Into The Right Side Of The Back At The Bottom Of The Ribs. It Is Quite Painful. Should I Be Concerned?
I had a fall tonight. It was outside and very slippery as a result of the ice storm. I slipped trying to clean the car of snow. My legs went under the car abd I fell on my back into a snow bank that was filled with ice. My back hit a point of ice and it dug into my back. It was quite painful. The injured place is on the right side of my back just at the bottom of the ribs at the back. I think it's in the kidney area. It is quite painful to the touch. I can breath without any problem. Could I have done anything serious? Could I have injured my kidney?
Hi, This is most likely to be a muscular injury. However, there is a possibility that you may have injured your kidney but you would be experiencing more pain and also may have blood in the urine. I suggest you take paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain. It may take up to a week to improve. Superficial bruising may start to show in your lower back in the next few days but do not worry about this. I hope you feel better soon. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
