Feel The Need To Gasp For Air Frequently. Suggest Something

I feel the need to gasp for air every few minutes. Feel like yawning but just end up gasping for air. Its not at a point where I feel like I am going to die but it is not very comfortable. I sleep fine at night and do not wake up with the problem in the middle of the night. Any suggestions?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

From the description of your anxiety symptoms, it is likely that you are suffering from a hyperventillation syndrome. However, I would advise you to have a detailed physical examination by a doctor, in order to rule out any medical causes.

I would suggest that you try controlled breathing exercises to control your symptoms. Also, hyperventillation syndrome is closely associated with anxiety. So, trying relaxation techniques like progressive muscle relaxation, yoga, meditation, etc. can all be effective in tackling this problem.

Wish you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Jonas Sundarakumar
