Feel sick, have various symptoms of illness, but never get fever. Why?

I ve never had a fever . Ever. When I was a baby my parents used to take me to the doctor when I got a little fussy because they had no solid way of telling when I was ill. Doctors don t believe me when I m sick. They treat me like I m there for attention because I don t have a fever, they tell me that if I ve never had a fever I ve never been sick, which is totally not true, like the time I was 13 and almost died from strep throat but couldn t get a diagnosis until I was inches from death all because I didn t have a fever. Anyway, I haven t been to a doctor for five years because I m so tired of being treated like I m nuts because I don t have a fever. Like right now, I ve had a cold that s been getting progressively worse for three weeks. I know that s not a cold, but I know nothing will be done for me because you guessed it. I don t have a fever. What the frick is wrong with me? How do I convince doctors that I m actually sick even though I don t have a fever?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic. '

If you do not have a fever you do not have that. So do not worry about that and do not try to convince the doctor for what you do not obviously have. Try and tell him all the problems you have and get your self treated for that. If for example you have some body aches, cold etc tell him that you have all those and get treatment for that rather than trying to convince him about the fever.

Hope this helps.

I am writing about my 14 year old son, who has been ill repeatedly 4 times for the past 7 weeks. He s been on antibiotics all 4 times, struggles to recover until his antibiotics are nearly gone, finally feels better for a few days and then gets it again. We are wondering if it is valley fever. Can that come with congestion/sinus symptoms? He s been diagnosed with sinus infections each time, but develops not only significant congestion/sinus symtpoms, but also chest pain, horrible coughing, fatigue, sore throat, and is miserable. He has faithfully taken not only strong antibiotics, but prescription strength cough syrup/decongestant, Flonase nasal spray, Zyrtec once a day, and breathing treatments up to 4 times a day, along with vitamin C and lots of fluids. He is otherwise very healthy, but his doctor is concerned that perhaps it is not really sinus infections he has had. I cannot find on the internet where there is a connection between congestion/sinus symptoms and Valley Fever - curious about that as others have asked if he has been tested for it. We live in Phoenix. As a young child he had repeated ear infections, but 4 years ago at age 10 he had his tonsils and adenoids removed, tubes in his ears, and a major sinus surgery. He has been very healthy ever since until now. Any ideas? Thank you verey much!

Hi, it s a very long story, but I forgot I had a tampon in since saturday night. I took it out tonight (Monday night) when I realized it was still in there, but I m a little worried about TSS. I have a fever and a sore throat, and honestly feel ill in general, which I read are some of the symptoms, but I m not sure if I should go to a doctor about it. I would really appreciate any advice.

My husband has been sick for a couple of weeks. He will not go to the doctor. It started with a muscle Spam in his back after do some work in the yard. After about a week that eased up then he felt ill like he had the flu. He was running a low fever 100. He has no appitite and sleeps a lot the fever has broke but he just wants to sleep and he will have bad sweat times. Do you have any idea what is wrong. Could it be the flu.

Hi doctor, my 35 month old son has a rash that look like your picture for scarlet fever but he doesn t have a fever. The rash consists of red bumpy all over his back and chest and stomach. This went on for 2 days then it spreads to his upper arms then to the face in the next 3 days. Now some of it went down to the legs. He itches and wantS to scratch his back all the time. This is almost a week long now and I ve been giving him Benadryl before bed time but it just didn t seem to get better. His dr appt is Monday and I m hoping you can give me a clue to what he has or what else I can do for him prior to the dr visit. Also he already had roseola when he was 18 months old so he can t have it again, right? Thank you.

Hi for a week now I have suffered from an itchy rash which is situated wherever my glands are i.e around the neck, armpits, groin and then the stomach area; and as the week has gone by it has become worse, spread and become painful. Only my gland on my neck is swollen but that has improved. I don t have a fever and I feel fine... so this is what is confusing. The past month I did have the flu, dont know if that has anything to do with it as I did take antibiotics, can you maybe help me?

My 16 month old has an infected crack on his thumb from thumb sucking. It was red and swollen and had small rashy bumps around it. He received a Rocephin shot in the Dr. office and is now on Keflex for 10 days, this is day 3. The same time this infection appeared, he developed a rash on his feet and legs: red, raised bumps, that do not appear to be bothering him. The rash has now spread to his arms, hands, and face as well. He has also started to have freqent explosive diarrhea that has absolutely NO odor. Could all this be related to the infection? No fever, and the rash started prior to any antibiotic use.

My 9yrold son was treated for strep throat/scarlet fever yesterday morning. He had been fevering, vomiting, sore throat, rash and headache since Saturday. He s taken 4 doses of amoxicillan now. His fever stayed down so far today, but his rash is everywhere now and itching. He has started complaining that his scrotum is sore to the touch and when he urinates (and the area is very red and inflamed with rash). So, his doctors and pharmacists are trying to conclude if it could be related to the strep or if he may be having a reaction to the meds and needs to change to something else. Any insight on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
