Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Family History Of Hypothyroidism. What May Be The Reason For Heart Palpitations Occur Once In 3 Days?
I have heart palpitations about once every 3 days. I have called 911 twice and they have down two EKGs (two different kinds at one time before) and it was negative. My brother has hypothyroidism and I Have also been really stressed lately. What may be the reason?
Thanks for the query. The most common reason for palpitations in the general population are premature or skipped beats, either premature atrial contractions or premature ventricular contractions, which indeed increase with stress. They are usually benign. However, if palpitations are sustained, it may represent an abnormal rhythm of the heart such as atrial fibrillation. The best option for you would be to wear a Holter monitor for 48 hours and determine which is the exact cause, as the root of the palpitations may not be evident at the time that the paramedics get the spot ECG.
Hope that is useful, wish you the best,
