Excessive Swelling, Fluid In Knees. Have Auto Immune Hepatitis. Taking Prednisone, Imuran. Medicine To Reduce Swelling?

I have auto immune hepatitis, my doctor has had me on Prednisone and Imuran for about 3 months. I started on 20 mg.,and I have tapered down to 7.5. My enzyme levels are normal, but I am having problems with swelling excessively. I am having problems with my knees with fluid backup. What can I do to help with the swelling?

Hello,

Swelling is the major side effect of steroid medications.
You will need a ECG, 2D-ECHO to ensure there is no heart component (heart failure) as cause of swelling.
Secondly I hope the kidney function is normal.
If both of above are ok, then a low dose diuretic (water tablet) will lower the swelling.
Ensure the uruc acid level is normal.

Best Wishes.
