Elevated Triglyceride Inspite Of Regular Medication, High Thyroid Level,prescribed Rosustat-f. What Can Be Done?

hi,iam balu,my triglyceride level when tested on 17/06/2012 is 466mg/dL,which is on higher side.my triglyceride level is above 300 to 506mg/dL since 2007 inspite of regular medication .Now my thyroid level is 7.0ml/L.my cardiologist consultant has prescribed rosustat-f(macleeds) tablet for three months.kindly give me your further advise and guide line ,please further,other lipids are normal.

Hi Balu,
Thanks for writing in.
Apart from the medication, I think we should be looking at a huge lifestyle change. If your thyroxine level is at 7 mg/dL, it is normal. However, if your TSH level is 7mg/dL, it is high and is suggestive of hypothyroidism. We will need to treat this as well to reduce your triglyceride levels as well.
Also, the following lifestyle changes need to be made
a. Have a very low fat diet. Fat should be approximately 15% of your diet.
b. Have plenty of fruits and vegetables
c. Totally cutout oil, ghee, coconut, refined food and sugar from your diet. You should not take fried food, junk food like pizza etc
d. Exercise daily
