Effect Of Ketones On Fetus?

I am trying to research the effect of ketones on the fetus. There is research done on rats that shoulld good results. Now polar bears deliver their babies while in hibernation thus their young are using up the Mother's fat stores as energy during their development and they come out perfectly fine. Chimps are our closest genetic relatives, yet no studies have been done using them on a ketogenic diet and testing those results to FINALLY give some sort of answer to this medical debate. I guess my real question is what is the lowest amount of carbohydrates can I eat and what is your stance on ketogenic diets while pregnant given the fact that an obese Mother has enough energy stores for the baby to draw upon?

Hello,
Thanks for your query. Minimum amount of Carbohydrates required during pregnancy is 50% of total calorie intake. Ketone bodies are not good during pregnancy. Diabetic Ketoacidosis is one of the lethal complication of uncontrolled Diabetes due to high ketones. So minimum carbohydrate intake is minimum of 50% diet intake.

I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you. In case of any doubt, I will be available for follow ups.
Wish you good health.
Regards,
Dr Arif
