Does Tetralysal Pills Intervene With Birth Control Pills?

Hello! My dermatologist suggested that I would need to take 2 pills of tetralysal for about a month. I read in the leaflet that these pills may intervene with the protection of birth control pills. I m now in my first week of taking the contraception pill (day 4). Do I have to provide extra protection with my boyfriend?

Hi,

Tetralysal is an antibiotic that contains tetracycline is used in the treatment of certain infections like acnes by killing or stopping growth of bacteria which cause infections. On the other hand, oral contraceptive pills or OCP are used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses. But oral hormonal birth control pills containing estrogen may not perform appropriately if the pills are consumed while you are taking Tetralysal. As unwanted pregnancies may occur, so additional means of birth control methods should be used while you are consuming Tetralysal.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

It may not necessarily cause the interaction in all people but it would be wise to use a physical barrier like a condom.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
