Does Oedema With Low Blood Pressure, High Heart Rate Indicate Congested Heart Failure?

My mother in law is 91 and has been in the hospital, then nursing home for rehab then back to the hospital because of severe dehydration. She has been back in the hospital for 2 weeks now and has edema. This morning she was taken to ICU because of a drop in blood pressure and high heart rate. Is tihs a sign of conjested heart failure or what could it be? We know her time is limited now. Thanks!

Dear Sir
Thanks for your query to us.
A low blood pressure and high heart rate can occur in a number of conditions. At this age Any complicated infection, be it pneumonia, urinary tract infection or enteritis, can cause such a picture. If we consider edema due to same pathology, heart disease is one of the the possibilities, including congestive heart failure. Low proteins, kidney diseases may also be the reason or contributory factors. However isolated edema can also have many causes.
Sincerely
Sukhvinder
