hi, i was diagnosed with inflammatory arthiritis a year and six months ago dec 2009. with the disease under control in feb 2011 i was advised to discontinue my weekly folitraz 15 mg dose. I got a thyroid test done and my TSH is 64.99ulU/ml !!!!! thyroxine T4 - 4.00 and T3 - 0 .798. Does this have anything to do with side effects of folitrax ???? how serious cd this be ... plzzz advise ....
Hello, Sorry to learn about your bothersome situation. Folitraz is not reported as a drug that causes hypothyroidism. I would recommend to check the AntiTPO antiboides because in most of the cases the under active thyroid has an autoimmune origin. An endocrinologist will typically recommend levothyroxine. This is a prescription medication that is the scientifically sound way to replace the deficient hormone in the human body. Please consult your endocrinologist for a prescription for the same. The ideal dose varies from person to person (depends on weight, comorbities, age ect) . Hope i have been helpful.
Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
