Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Quantacine For High Blood Pressure Cause Any Side Effects?
My husband s doctor wants him to try quantacine for high blood pressure maintenance. Could you tell me if there are any ill effects (feeling sluggish, nausea, etc) that result from taking it? He is currently taking HCTZ, and has potassium problems along with no ambition. I d like to know if the quantacine would be a good change.
Yes, it can cause certain side effects. Quantacine is a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist initially used for the treatment of hypertension. Its common side effects include weakness, drowsiness, decrease blood pressure, dizziness, dry mouth, nausea, and impotence. I would recommend a better option in the form of either lisinopril or valsartan which can be taken along with HCTZ effectively and unlikely to cause potassium problems.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
