Does ASA Tablets Help In Pregnancy And Do They Have Any Side Effects?

This is my 2nd pregnancy and am 9 weeks pregnant. The 1st one was a normal one and my baby weighed 2.3 kg at the time of birth and she is now 4 and a half yrs old.i have had no abortions ,but i have taken 2 times contaceptive (emergency morning after) pills in between. My doctor has prescribed me ASA 50 and I have been taking it since last 4 weeks. Is it required for me and how safe it is?

Hi, I have gone through your question. ASA 50 is aspiring 50 mg tablet which is usually in pregnant women with chronic hypertension, autoimmune disease like SLE, and in whom there is decreased uterine blood flow (abnormal uterine artery doppler) in ultrasound. It is given to increase the blood supply to the uterus and therefore to the fetus by making the blood thin. Aspirin in such a
low dose does not causes any maternal or fetal side-effects, but it has to be stopped at 34 weeks. In my opinion,according to the information you have given, there is no need to give aspirin in your case, but you need to confirm with your doctor the reason for starting it.
