Do Side Effects Of Pradaxa Include Nausea, Upset Stomach And Nosebleed?

I have been taking pradaxa since Oct. 2011 with no side effects. For the past three days I have had nausea, upset stomach and this morning woke up with a nose bleed . It did stop after awhile. At what point should I see a doctor or is it not a concern?

Hi and welcome to HCM. Pradaxa contains Dabigatran and is used to prevent blood clots from forming because of a certain type of irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation). This medication may also be used to prevent blood clots from forming in your legs or lungs after hip or knee replacement surgery. It is very important to take it exactly as directed. Do not increase the dose, take it more frequently, or stop taking it unless directed by your doctor. Easy bruising or minor bleeding (such as nosebleed, bleeding from cuts) may occur. Tell your doctor right away if you have any signs of serious bleeding, including: unusual pain/swelling/discomfort, unusual/easy bruising, prolonged bleeding from cuts or gums, persistent/frequent nosebleeds, unusually heavy/prolonged menstrual flow, pink/dark urine, coughing up blood, vomit that is bloody or looks like coffee grounds, severe headache, dizziness/fainting, unusual or persistent tiredness/weakness, bloody/black/tarry stools. heart burn and nausea are also common side effect of this drug. Remember that your doctor has prescribed you this weighing the benefits with risks involved. I suggest you to consult your treating doctor and never stop this abruptly with out informing your doctor, it is very dangerous. All the best
