Diagnosed Brain Tumor. Got Respiratory Issues. Gave Medicines. Told To PCP Monitor For Side Effects. Proper Treatment?

We recently found out that my Dad was diagnosed with Brain tumor on the left side, we have been toseveral doctors/ hopitals for options all statng that a Biopsy is needed for any type of treatment to begin. They also said that it is risky as with any surgery but due to the size and my dads age(74) with other health issues (respitory) and he may not make it through the biopsy. they also stated that there is no guarentee they can treat it as it has grown in size within the past 4 months. At this point he was sent home with a persription for siezure and a steroid and told to have his PCP monitor these meds for side effects. They said he may have 1 -2 months ....I am seeking out yet another hospital for help if possible. Any advise or thoughts are welcomed.....thank you

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.

It is unfortunate that your dad has been diagnosed to have a brain tumor.

MRI brain with contrast can help us in diagnosis, whether it is benign or malignant (cancer), however, for confirmation, a biopsy (operation) is needed.

I agree that the operation carries risks due to anaesthesia. The risk and benefit should be weighed before deciding to do an operation.

If there are high chances that the tumor is cancerous (based on the MRI) and the fact that the doctors are giving him only a few more months, then, it may be better to avoid the operation.
I hope it helps. Please get back if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
