Hello,
Thanks for your query.
Herpes Zoster is more common in diabetes, transplant patients since their immunity is low & also they are taking immunosuppresant drugs.
I would suggest that your dad should visit your nearest doctor as soon as possible, first let the doctor see & confirm it is herpes than treatment like Acyclovir should be started immediately. Kindly dont waste time as the herpes skin lesions are very burning & painful & it can worsen. Till that time your dad can apply Calamine lotion thin layer which will give soothing effect & decrease the burning pain.
Take care.

Hello,

Herpes zoster in your father is due to immunocompromised state because of renal transplant and diabetes.
Acyclovir is the drug of choice for the treatment for Herpes zoster.
Pain is caused due to postherpetic neuralgia. Drugs like carbamazepine and amitriptyline may be used to reduce the pain.
Consult your doctor and take them according to this advice.

Hello,
Although herpes zoster is a viral infection and can become allright of its own in 2-4 weeks but treatment is offered so that the duration of illness and severity of illness can be shortened.
Treatment given is ...
Analgesics like gabapentin
Use of anti viral drugs like ACYCLOVIR for 7-10 days( oral tablets given as 5 tablets a day )
Giving antibiotics if secondary infection takes place.
Best treatment to alleviate pain is local icing for 10 minutes after every 1-2 hour.
Thanks
