Developed Tiny Brown Spots In Groups And Patches On Arms, Shoulders And Back. No Itching And Burning. Treatment?

Hi Doctor,
I have developed tiny brown spots in groups and patches at many places on my arms, shoulders, and back. They seem to be harmless. I dont have itching, burning, or irritation of any sort. The only trouble is the cosmetic part of it. It shows up very well when I am wearing a t-shirt. Now it has started to appear near shoulder blades as well. I have these for many years now but has been growing gradually.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

It seems that you would be having tinea versicolor.

It is superficial fungal infection.

It is caused by Mellasezia furfur.

It is contagious and precipitated by perspiration, poor immunity and poor hygiene.

It may be exacerbated by use of soap, wetness due to sweat and water.

There are macules and patches of different colors brown ,black or hypoigmented. With mild superficial scaling. And there may be no other symptoms.

There is a perfect treatment.

Oral antifungal like ketoconazole or itraconazole for 2 to 3 weeks may be taken.

Apply anti fungal cream like ketoconazole or setraconazole or luliconazole cream.

Shampoo with ketoconazole containing shampoo.

Avoid soap bath and keep the area dry.

Take healthy food to improve immunity.

Yet, you consult dermatologist.

I hope you got my answer.

Thanks.
