Delay in periods, get intermittent cramps, nausea, negative HPT. Had unprotected sex in the previous cycle. Reason?

Last month had my period on the 9th (9/9/12) I was supposed to get my period on the 8th of October and am now 9 days late have taken two home pregnancy tests both negative. Never been this late for a period it s usually only a couple days late. Had unprotected sex on the 9th and 10th of September. Been getting cramps here and there and backaches and a little nauseous but negative tests. Would it be too early to get a positive?
