Darkened Lips Due To Smoking For A Long Time. Anything Can Be Done?

Hello Doctor. Im a 22 year old male. I had been smoking for two years and recently quit about 10 days ago. My lips used to be very reddish in colour and i had very clean teeth before i started to smoke. My lips have darkened and look purple and i also have brown stains on my teeth. Please advice me regarding regaining my original lip colour and removing stains from my teeth.

Hi,
Welcome to HCM,
Smoking causes lot of bad effects visible staining of teeth and lips, first step is to stop smoking completely and avoiding tea and coffee. I am glad that you have stopped smoking keep it up.

smoking can cause Sticky tar deposits Brown tooth stains, red inflammation on the roof of the mouth delayed healing of the gums, chronic bad breath.

Visit a good dentist to get proper treatment according to your need and cleaning that is scaling and polishing with bleaching to get as good result as possible.Using proper tooth brushing and flossing techniques.

Lip colour also reduces with time keep it moisturised with vaseline.
Avoid drugs like which cause dryness of mouth like anti histaminic o anti allergy medicine, antidepressants.
You can also visit a Dermatologist to take opinion.
Take care.
Good Luck.
