Cramps In Lower Intestine And Intestinal Pain. Tests Normal. Diagnosed As IBS. Chances Of Crohns Disease?

I have been having intestinal issues for the last 2 years. My symptoms are as follows; moderate to severe intestinal pain and cramps in lower intestines. I have had the following tests done: Blood work, MRE of small bowel, CT scan with just vein contrast, and colonoscopy with biopsies. All were normal. My gastro doc thinks I have a bad case of IBS. In your opinion, is there any chance this could be crohns disease?

Hi,
Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome have some very similar symptoms, as such all doctors run a series of tests to determine which one of them you have, think of it as a process of elimination.
The tests used are-
blood tests
CT scan
colonoscopy and biopsy
MRI

If none of these have shown you having particular signs related with cronhn's disease, then it is quite likely that you dont have it. Just for curiosities sake I shall list some of the results that would've shown up if you had crohn's disease

Blood test - anemia
CT scan - to check for complications such as partial blockages, abscesses or fistulas
Colonoscopy and biopsy - to look for clusters of inflammatory cells called granulomas, which help confirm the diagnosis of Crohn's disease
MRI - particularly useful for evaluating a fistula around the anal area (pelvic MRI) or the small intestine (MRI enterography).

I hope this answered your question.
