Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could The Throat Soreness And Spasms Be Due To Esophageal Spasms?
I experience a brief (5 minutes?) extreme sore throat (upper, not lower) every few days. It feels like a throat spasm. Massaging my neck seems to help, yoga neck stretches help. It has happened in the night and woken me up. There are no lingering symptoms or effects of the spasms.
Dr. says it is esphogial spasms, but am worried about the " broadness " of that as an explanation. Should I be asking for other tests?
Esophageal spasm may present like pain in the Centre of the chest like squeezing type of pain but in throat it will give less symptoms. Night time you get acid reflux that may cause chemical pharyngitis gives pain and cause muscle spasm. Get it done barium swallow and upper gi scopy, esophageal manomertry, esophageal ph monitoring may gives you the diagnosis. Please consult your he will examine and treat you accordingly.
