Hi,
Noted your history of
injury over neck area causing Sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle spasm along with other muscles, feeling fullness in throat, stuffy nose last time and Chiropractor found out mildly swollen sub-mental
lymph nodes.
During the trauma there are following factors that work with immediate effect and some with delayed effects, symptoms and signs.
The muscles go into spasm immediately to protect the internal structures.
The spasm causes pain which may be evident after some time or even on next day.
Then starts the vicious cycle of pain-spasm and pain.
Spasm can get relieved faster but hte edema and/or
hematoma if occurred takes far more time and can spread to the sub-cutaneous are and also over deeper structures causing the symptoms that you have.
The sub-mental lymph nodes could have been due to some oral infection or problems with teeth.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Consult an ENT Surgeon to see for the edema or hematoma that might spread to the throat or internal area. This can be seen by
Endoscopy and
CT scan of the neck.
Get started with the following treatment:
Neck rest , use neck collar to avoid movements of neck.
Anti-inflammatory medicines like
Ibuprofen if it suits you.
Prescription based
muscle relaxant.
Rest of the treatment as per the findings.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, ENT and General Surgeon
