Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could The Irritation In Eyes Be Due To Inhalation Of Meth?
I tried meth for the first time 2 nights ago with some friends. We did it once one night and then the next night. That last night I noticed my eye became really irritated like something was under my eyelid. Then I looked at it and it was really red. Too red to be pink eye I thought. And. Then this mucus like stuff was blurring up my eye. And I freaked and put eye drops In it. And as thus day continues its not clearing up. Could smoking the drug have done this? Is it pink eye? Can putting the eyedrops onto my eye while having the drug. In me cause long term problems? What can ease the pain?
Smoking releases chemicals into the air. These get into the eye and cause irritation. Meth is made with a number of very toxic and irritating chemicals and these often are not removed from the finished product. They go into the air and get into the eye. Flushing with a LOT of water would be a first treatment.
Further treatment would require directly looking to see what is going on. This can include merely an irritation that will go away in about a day. Anti-inflammatory eye drops will help rapidly. It can be a dissolving/cut/damage to the covering of the eye. Anti-inflammatory eye drops would be less good of an idea and this would need watching.
It can be a foreign body got onto the eye or the lid and flushing with water would remove it most of the time. In theory could be vascular problems from the meth and this could be an emergency. But this isn't really common and it isn't supported by feeling that the problem is outside of the eye.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
