Could Migraines Be Caused Due To Being In The Sun?

Hi,
My fiance and I recently spent the day out in the sun for about 9 hours. When I came home, I was so beat from the sun that I fell asleep. However, the next day, I experienced migraines and migraine like symptoms. What causes this? Possilby dehydration?

Hi,

I completely understand your concern and your pain which has affected your fiancee. From your symptoms, it appears to me that it is a typical case of migraine. If I had a patient with these symptoms I would have examined features like:

1) vision power as defective vision leads to headache.
2) checked his blood pressure, sometimes high blood pressure is a cause.
3) tenderness over cheek bones when applied pressure, this will indicate sinusitis.
4) light flashes, radiating pain to ear, back of head, one sided headache, these are seen in migraine, mostly due to some triggering factors like sunlight, sounds etc.

In your case we can have a x ray done to rule out other causes. You can get prescribed anti migraine drugs from a ENT Specialist . Kindly see that you maintain a chart of drugs for follow up reference. You shall be fine sir/madam. Its one of the common conditions seen these days.

Hope this helps you. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Best regards,
Dr. Suhas Chauhan
