Could Itchy Cough And Phlegm In Lungs Be Due To Lung Cancer?

Hi, I am Olivia. I m 18 years old. I weigh about 200 pounds. I have had a cough for about two days. It is an itchy cough, but not a painful one. It also feels like there is a tiny bit of phlegm in my lungs, but not too much. I am nervous about this because over the summer, I smoked a few cigarettes -- probably only about a pack total over a month or so. I recently stopped. Is there any chance this could be lung cancer?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

Please don't panic. Only a pack of cigarettes will not do any permanent harm to your body. A cough may be due to upper respiratory tract allergic reaction.

Take steam inhalation through mouth and nose. Drink plenty of fluid. Do betadine gargle thrice daily after food. Rest will be ok. But last and not the least don't make smoking a habit.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rajat Basak
