Could Flag H By RDW Result By A Doctor Mean Difficulty In Conceiving?
Hi I recently went to the doctor to have a full physical and blood work done I get my results back and there is a flag H by my RDW result. Could this affect my chances of pregnancy my husband and I have been trying to conceive for the past two months...
Hello and welcome to HCM, RDW stands for red cell distribution width. RDW refers to variation in the sizes of red blood cells. This parameter is unrelated to the issue of conceiving and fertilization. A RDW marked as H suggests that RDW is elevated. RDW is elevated in conditions of iron deficiency anemia. You need to get a peripheral blood film examination to know the status of red blood cells.
If there is difficulty in conceiving, you need to consult your gynecologist. Probably, a follicular study will be required to look for ovulation and development of the follicles.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja P Wahal
