Cough Producing Lots Of Mucus And Post Nasal Drip. Is This Bronchitis And How Long It Will Last?

I have a cough that produces lots of mucus and post nasal drip. When I cough I lose my breath for about 3 secs and it happens mostly while I'm sleeping. Am I suffering with bronchitis? I don't have insurance but I've spoken to a few pharmacists and they all say it is. If it is, how long does it usually last and what can I do to feel better and stop the coughing?

Hi!
welcome to HCM!
The excess mucus production that triggers postnasal drip can be due to Allergies, sinusitis, bronchitis.
Bronchitis affects walls of the bronchi as they become inflamed. The inflammation causes more mucus to be produced, which narrows the airway and makes breathing more difficult.Acute bronchitis can last for up to 90 days while chronic bronchitis can last for months.
Infectious bronchitis can be due to bacteria or viruses, even after infection subsides the irritation of the bronchi can continue to cause symptoms.
You must get examined. A sample of sputum may be examined. A chest X-ray may be needed to rule out pneumonia,
Cool-mist humidifiers or steam vaporizers can be helpful for wheezing or shortness of breath. Corticosteroids and bronchodilator inhalers can be useful for cough.
Take care!
