Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Congestion, Mild Fever, Vomiting And Diarrhea. Should I Consult A Doctor?
My daughter has been sick since last week Thursday. Congestion, mild fever. Moderate diarrhea started a few days ago. She now has a very LOW temp(95.4), and has been up vomitting and having diarrhea all night. She has a metabolic condition that affects her energy chain, and tends to have breakdowns when she is sick and putting out alot like she currently is. At what point should I take her to the ER?
Your daughter is suffering from the flu.In children, gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea and abdominal pain are common part of the flu. I would advise her to get plenty of rest, drink plenty of liquids, avoid aspirin as it can lead to Reye's syndrome. Since influenza is caused by a virus, antibiotics have no effect on the infection;and the infection generally subsides on its own in 3-4 days time
i would advise you to consult a doctor if the symptoms dont subside even after after 3 days of starting of the symptoms.as your daughter already has a metabolic condition.
thank you, wishing you good health
