Clear Vaginal Discharge. Diagnosed Prolapsed Fibroid Uterine Tumor. No Bleeding, Pain. Recommended Surgery To Remove Uterus. Any Other Options?
I have a prolapsed fibroid uterine tumor a bit larger than a golf ball. I have no bleeding or pain, and except for the clear discharge I have from the vaginal area I would not know I even have it. ( My OBGYN discovered it at my last exam.) She recommends surgery to remove my uterus. I am experiencing more of a discharge and need to wear a tampon and overnight pad and change every 2 to 4 hours. I am thinking the tumor is and will shrink, since I am a healthy 55 year old entering menopause. I want to avoid surgery, is this discharge normal for a shrinking tumor. I am planning a trip to Europe in two weeks and want to be sure I'm OK to travel!
Hi, The discharge is usually caused by the exposed surface area of the tumor and is not evidence of shrinkage. You are perhaps right in predicting that the tumor may shrink, it does in the majority once menopause is attained. Yet, you should be aware that you are still menstruating and as the tumor is prolapsed it can undergo torsion; and torsion calls for an emergency treatment. So, I would suggest surgery as advised by your doctor. If you wish to travel, please get clearance from your doctor regarding the current state of the tumor. Hope this helps.
