1. when motions are watery, always be alert, as
dehydration can occur very rapidly
2. consult a child specialist immediately and in between examine for signs of dehydration like sunken eye balls, loss of skin turgor and thirst [dry tongue and axillae]
3.
ORS [oral rehydration salt] is the most important part of the treatment, more important than drugs [give continuously, as much as the child takes except when abdomen is distended or if vomiting] take 200ml boiled & cooled water and add 1tsp of sugar and a pinch of salt.
4. The evaluation of
diarrhea in children requires a careful review of medical history, a physical examination, and infrequently, diagnostic testing. The clinician will perform a thorough examination because there are some infections unrelated to the bowels that can cause diarrhea
5. give cereal, breads, rice, mashed potatoes, and pasta, avoid all fruit juices, milk and carbonated drinks., avoid beans or any other foods that cause loose stools.
