Child Have Fever Along With A Bump. Had A Fall Earlier. Also Have Tonsil Problem, Giving Antibiotics. What To Do Now?
Hi I have 3.5 year old who is currently on antibiotic because of tonsil problems, then 3 days ago he had an accident at kindy where his forehead was injured. At the time he had a quite big bump and its very blue however he didn't loose conscious and wasn't sick. I am worried as today he is running temperature again, and seem sicker then before. He sleeps more as well. Also most of the lump is gone but there is a 50 cent coin size and a bit hard on the touch bump. Do I take him to the hospital. Could he had a worse than we tought head injury? Thanks
Your child developed a hematoma due to accumulation of blood in the scalp after the trauma.
This swelling will subside gradually.
But brain injury will lead to symptoms such as headache, vomitings, seizures, loos of sensorium or drowsiness, bleeding from nose and ears, and decreased limb movements.
Watch for these symptoms and if you find any, consult emergency immediately. As he is having you can give Tylenol in prescribed dose.
Consult the pediatrician for physical examination for follow up and to look for any abnormal signs of head injury.
