Child Has Diarrhea And Stomach Virus. Diarrhea Was A Light Yellow Almost Clear. Normal? What To Do?

My 15 month old daughter has had diarrhea all day and has a stomach virus. She has had explosive diarrhea all day to where I am changing her diaper every 15 minutes. I don't want her to get dehydrated she is drinking water but she hates pedalite and Gatorade and she isn't eating a whole lot just little things here and there. Also her last diaper her diarrhea was a light yellow almost clear. Is this normal? What can I do?

Hi and welcome to HCM.
This is normal stool color after diarrhea. There is no specific treatment for viral enteritis but fluids, fluids and fluids. You can give her some very easy pulpy food but if she cant tolerate this, dont force. Diarrhea usually pass in 2-3 days and if persists more than this, you should visit doctor.
Wish you good health.

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Your child is having diarrhea which is mostly viral in nature and settles in few days.
Most important is to maintain hydration.
Try to give oral rehydration solution sip by sip after each stool try some different flavor.
Give coconut water,lemonade,buttermilk,curd,boiled potato,banana,rice porridge.
Also give lactobaccilus and zinc after consulting your doctor.
Watch for features of dehydration like decreased urine output/lethargy/refusal of feed and in case you observe any get her evaluated by pediatrician.

Wishing your baby good health.
God bless..

Cardiologist Dr. Anantharamakrishnan's  Response
Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

The colour of the stool is OK...

Most diarrhoeas are viral / and stop by 4 to 5 days... / need only symptomatic treatment.

The most important aspect in the management of diarrhoea is rehydration - ensure enough fluid intake (pedialyte is OK)...but if the child is not taking, she should be admitted and given parenteral (intra-venous) fluids.
Taking only water, may result in electrolyte disturbance - may need to check
Good amount of urine is an indication of enough intake..

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
