Child Has A Bump On His Chest. It Hurts, Is Inflamed. X-rays No Problem. Cure For Symptoms? Can He Play Sports?

My so is 10 he has been to the Dr office recently for a bump on his chest which hurts they said the ribs at the sternum is inflamed and is condylitis. Now ekg is fine nothing on x rays the lump has not been there before they said it was how he was formed he still complains of chest pain. They told me to give him ibrophen when needed, am I missing something or should I get a second opinion and he wants to play sports. What do I do. Sorry so long

I suspect he has costochondritis and this is simply an inflammation of the joint where the rib attaches to the sternum, or breast bone. His doctor has done the appropriate evaluation and nothing else needs to be done. Ibuprofen 3 times daily for pain is all that is required and he may play sports.
