Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Child Fell Unconscious, Insensible Speech, Vomiting Sensation. Taken X Ray And EKG. Could It Be Because Of Hair Combing?
This morning I was brushing my 6 year old daughters hair (she was standing) and she told me she wasn't feeling well. I stopped asked her what was wrong she said she felt like she was going to throw up. She then started saying some words that made no sense. She then began to fall, hit her head on the chair I caught her before she hit the ground. Her eyes were open, wasn't blinking or responding for about 30 seconds. When she came to she was really shaken up. I immediately took her to the ER where chest xray and EKG came back normal. The ER doc said she thinks it was caused by getting her hair brushed, like someone passing out from the sight of blood. It just doesn't add up to me. Any thoughts?
I can understand your concern and am confused by the ER doctor's suggestion that caused by getting the hair brushed. Though syncope does occur for which a reason may not be found but still your daughter needs to be evaluated to rule out any underlying condition. She needs to have a complete clinical examination along with necessary investigations which the examining doctor deems appropriate.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
