Can The Fetus Be Aborted Now?
My wife missed her cycle by almost fifteen days on checking she found she is pregnant. We already have one child and are happy with him. We dont want second one. Can we abort baby after such long duration? If yes what to do because we want suerity for abortion. Also upto which period we can suerly remove baby?

Your wife's pregnancy is confirmed and she is 6 weeks pregnant.
Pregnancy up to 9 weeks (63 days) of duration can be very safely and effectively terminated by medicines. Tab. Mifepristone followed after 24-48 hours by Tab. Misoprostol can terminate her pregnancy. The dose of Misoprostol required is half for termination of pregnancy up to 7 weeks (42 days) duration than that required after that period. Usually the abortion takes place within 3 days of the last Misoprostol tablet. It is advisable to have a follow up ultrasonography to confirm the completeness of abortion.
However, these medicines are not 'over the counter' medicines and need to be taken by an Obstetrician's advice and prescription.
These medicines cause developmental abnormalities in the baby; hence, if they fail to abort, the pregnancy should not be continued but terminated by surgical procedure like MVA aspiration or so.
