Can Nose Bleeds Be Caused By High Blood Pressure?

Hi my name is charlotte, I have idiopathis intracranial hypertention. The doctor has me on the medication for it.. I havent refillef my medication, so I am so far two pills short of what I usually take. I woke up this morning with an nose bleed, and in that nose bleed I had blood clots. Mind you I have gad only two nose bleeds, if that in my life. Coukd the nise bleed be a symptom of rising pressure? I also sleep with a fan, but have never had nose bleeds before, so I ruled that out as a possiblility for the cause. So I guess my only questions are: is this a cause if rising pressure and if so shiuld I go to the hospital?

Hello,

Yes, high blood pressure can trigger bleeding from the nose. You are suggested to continue to take your prescription medicines and take food that does not elevate your BP. Avoid blowing your nose too hard, do not pick your nose, stay away from chemical irritants or anything that triggers allergy. Cut on addictions if any.

Other medical conditions that cause nasal bleeding are nasal polyps, blood disorders, atherosclerosis, pregnancy (eclampsia), etc. Avoid stressful lifestyle and stay away from anxiety. Use humidifiers. However, if you get frequent nose bleeds get clinically examined to avoid any developing pathology.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
