Can My Son Get Cold Sore From His Dad?

My husband has a cold sore that just broke out this morning. He set a pop that he was drinking down and my 2 year old son grabbed it and poured it all over his face and head. He did not touch the lip of the can, only the liquid inside. Could my son get cold sores from this?

hi,
Transmission of cold sores depend on the type of infection, like the bacteria causing the sore. in your case, as there is no direct contact, the chances are less. However, it is better to keep him in observation and if he develops fever or rash, consult a pediatrician with all history explained.
All the best.
