Can Insulin Be Avoided By Complete Diet Control While Suffering From Diabetes?

Hi Doctor,

I have been in medication for the past 2 months and the dr advised to have insulin once (18 units/day) and glycomet-gp1 twice a day. For the past 1 week I stopped my medication and feel normal with my controlled diet. Does it mean that I shall stop my medication by consulting with my doctor or should I continue to have the tablets alone (I dont need an insulin injection, honestly). My islet antibody test is negative and HbAc1 is normal.

Please advise if I shall manage the disease with my diet discipline?

Hello,

You have been rule out of type l diabetes which is insulin dependent.
So if the blood sugars are less than 250 mg / dl and HbA1c between 6 to 7 % than you may not need insulin at this stage of your diabetes.
Oral hypoglycemic drug alone may be enough to take care of your blood sugar.
But in my opinion it is always advisable to consult your doctor before stopping and medication and take his advice in this regard.
