Hi, My mum has chest pains and was going to take some aspirin... she has a faulty heart valve so it s an ongoing issue. The aspirin might help, but due to a history of thalassemia in the family she s not sure if it will have any effect. I ve got the aspirin with me now; should I give some to her?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! Regarding your concern about aspirin I assure you that it is safe, unless there is any contraindication like peptic ulcer, allergy, or any other active bleeding, etc. The matter that counts here is the reason of chest pain. I recommend to perform an ECG, some blood tests like cardiac enzymes (CK-MB, Troponin I) and cardiologist consult to rule out a cardiac ischemic attack.
; and also to define the appropriate strategy of treatment for heart valve disease.
If you have any specific detailed information about her valve disorder, oast medical history and actual treatment feel free to ask me.
Greeting from Dr. Iliri
