Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started taking cholestyramine for diarrhea about a month again.... everyday I am feeling more tired and wiped out. Also my stool has been ladened with small white sesame seed looking througout ever since as well. COuld this be cholesterol (even though my cholessterol is low)..? But my triglycerides are high. Or could it be yeast or perhaps fungus? My vision is getting blurry and I have been feeling faint & dizzy. I don t want to stop taking cholestyramine because w/o it, I will have diarrhea episodes about 20-30 a day, which is equally as exhausting!! I am not taking ANY other meds of any kind. 46 y.o. female, 1.6 pounds.
Hello, Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read carefully your query and I understand your concern. The sesame seed in the stool and your symptoms indicate me that you have a parasite infestation that cause the diarrhea, the high value of cholesterol isn’t the cause of the diarrhea. You mentioned here that you start taking cholestyramin a month ago for diarrhea and you can’t interrupt it because you have diarrhea episodes that go from 20-30 a day, the cholestiramin is a bile acid sequestrate, it removes bile acid from the body by forming insoluble complexes with the bile in intestine, which are excreted in feces, it is used to lower plasma cholesterol level and also it can used for bile acid diarrhea caused from irritable bowel syndrome, the use of this medication resolve symptom of diarrhea but not cure you should determine the cause and cure the cause that you probably have a parasites infestation by the water called also waterborne disease. To determine the cause you should go to the doctor and analyze samples of stools to detect the cause and begin the right treatment. Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions. Kind regard, Dr .Marsida Janko
