Can Anesthesia Cause Sunburn Rash On My Face And Chest?

I had a D & C yesterday under general anesthesia and 12 hours later developed a sunburn rash on my face and chest. I am 53. I have never had a rash like this, I haven t been in the sun at all. I have not been short of breath or anything like that. Can anesthesia cause this?

Hello,

It’s possible that you are having an allergic reaction to the anesthetic rather than a sunburn. If you have not been out in the in the sun, it is very unlikely that it is a sunburn.

My advise is to speak with the doctor who took care of your procedure and find out which medications have been given to you and evaluate if you are allergic to them. Medication related rashes have a typical appearance.

Your doctor might be able to determine that by looking at your skin or send you for testing to see if you are allergic to the medication in the anesthesia.
